Connecting landless farmers to land

Food Next Door’s History

Food Next Door connects landless farmers with local unused farmland many of whom are former refugees or migrants from Burundi and the Congo that have been displace due to conflict and have now settled in Sunraysia with a strong desire to grow their own food.

Food Next Door has enabled these families to grow together, build capacity, community connection, through growing their cultural food.
They grow these vegetables to supplement food for their own families and sell the excess among the community to combat the current cost of living pressures, growing food for their own family some as large as ten, just to make ends meet and to earn additional income.
Food Next Door also grows additional crops and vegetables to sell locally to support the local food network.
These farmers have worked hard to revitalise baren soil to grow crops and transform what was compacted dry caltrop ridden land into to a green oasis.
